King's Quest is the most successful and popular series of computer games
ever. Devised by Roberta Williams and husband programmer Ken Williams, King's Quest became
the cornerstone of Sierra On-Line, one of the biggest games producers in the world.
King's Quest 7 follows the story of Princess Rosella
and her Mother in a strange land, where you play both roles at different times. At the
time of its release it was the most ambitious animated adventure game ever.
PC User is pleased to offer its readers the complete
version of King's Quest VII as part of its December 1998 Christmas CD pack. The game takes
up most of Disc 3, which also includes a preview and a 'making of' video of the just
        released King's Quest VIII

        instructions outlined below:

2 ) Windows 95 / 98 users: Open the Start menu and select RUN.

3 ) In the Command Line entry box in the RUN Window, type
the CD-ROM drive letter followed by "\SETUP" and press
<ENTER>. Example: if your CD-ROM drive is labeled as your D drive, you would type: D:\SETUP
        <ENTER>
4 ) Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

You should uncheck the box that says "Install MindSprint
Shortcut". This is for the US only and is not relevant to Australia.
Click on TEST HARDWARE to perform the hardware checks to verify that your computer can
        run King's Quest 7.
If you fail any of the tests, see "Windows Problems and Solutions". After
performing the hardware tests, click on
INSTALL to install King's Quest 7.
This will also install an icon for a preview AVI file of King's Quest  - Mask of
        Eternity.

        HANDY TO KNOW
To speed up or slow down your
walking speed in the game, press the + or - keys on the number pad on your keyboard.
        Some users have experienced random
fatal errors while playing King's Quest 7 if they have other memory intensive Windowsä
applications running at the same time. Sierra highly recommends running King's Quest 7 as
a stand alone Windows application. If this is not possible, Sierra recommends starting all
other Windows applications prior to starting King's Quest 7.
King's Quest 7 is designed to be
played with 256 colors in Windows. If the color mode is higher than 256 colors, such as
65535 "high color" or 16 million "true color" mode, Windows will not
allow for palette cycling. Although it will run, you will miss some of the special
graphics effects, the game may run slower, and you may experience some color trashing
during gameplay. We highly recommend playing King's Quest 7 in 640x480 256 color mode.
Refer to the "Windows Problems and Solutions" section in this README for more
        information.
If you try the game in Windows and
find your hardware runs the game slowly, try the game in MS-DOS. Both Windows and King's
Quest 7 are very demanding of hardware. Running under MS-DOS will allow more CPU attention
        for our game.
        King's Quest 7 contains a list of
BBS and Tech Support Numbers for Sound Card, Video Card, and Miscellaneous Computer
Peripheral / Software Manufacturers. To view this file, run SETUP.EXE, select SUPPORT,
click on CONTENTS, then select CONTACT INFORMATION.
