KING'S QUEST 7 - Tech notes

Problem: In Windows, I can't hear the dragonettes' music or the music from the harp when I pluck the strings. The music throughout the rest of the game is OK. Help!

Solution: This has to do with your Windows MIDI Mapper not being set up correctly. Take a look in the MUSIC section of this README for information to set up your MIDI Mapper properly. This is the only audio puzzle in the game. To get you past this part, touch strings 1,5,6,4 (assuming 1 is the first string on the left).

Question: I'm used to making saved games. KQ7 doesn't make "saved games" the way I'm used to them; it makes "bookmarks" instead. What's the difference?

Answer: A bookmark is a single saved game. It's like the bookmark placed in a book to mark where you stopped. KQ7's bookmark will let you quit a game and return to the same bookmark later. You can start from any chapter in the game, so you won't need to make a lot of "saved game" positions.

Problem: "OUT OF MEMORY: 1046312 BYTES REQUESTED, TYPE = DECOMPRESSION etc." or "OUT OF MOVEABLE MEMORY"

Solution: Make and use a boot disk, then start the game and try again.

FYI: The default size for SMARTDRV is 2048K or 2 megabytes. On an 8 megabyte RAM system, there may not be enough free memory left over to run the game. Reducing SMARTDRV 2048,2048 to SMARTDRV 512, 512 on a boot disk will free up more memory for the game in Windows.
